The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night enshrouding 1 By the day when it appeareth in glory, 2 And [by] He who created the male and female, 3 O men, you truly strive towards the most diverse ends! 4 As for him who gave out his wealth (for Allah's sake) and abstained (from disobeying Him), 5 and believes in the truth of what is right, 6 We shall facilitate for him the Way to Bliss. 7 And as for him who is niggardly and considers himself free from need (of Allah), 8 and he belied the finest 9 We shall facilitate for him the way to Hardship, 10 and what will his wealth avail him when he goes down [to his grave]? 11 Surely upon Us rests the guidance, 12 and, behold, Ours is [the dominion over] the life to come as well as [over] this earlier part [of your life]: 13 Therefor have I warned you of the flaming Fire 14 None shall reach it but those most unfortunate ones 15 Who denied (the truth) and turned away. 16 And Al-Muttaqun (the pious and righteous - see V. 2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell). 17 who spend for the cause of God and purify themselves. 18 And no one has with him any boon for which he should be rewarded, 19 only seeking the Face of his Lord the Most High; 20 And he shall soon be well-pleased. 21
