The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Recite: In the Name of thy Lord who created, 1 created man from a clot [of blood]. 2 Read, and your Lord only is the Most Beneficent, 3 Who teacheth by the pen, 4 taught Man that he knew not. 5 Yes indeed, man is surely rebellious. 6 Because he considers himself self-sufficient. 7 Surely your returning is to your Lord. 8 Have you seen him who restrains 9 A slave when he prayeth? 10 Seest thou if he is on (the road of) Guidance?- 11 Or enjoins piety? 12 What thinkest thou? If he cries lies, and turns away - 13 Does he not know that Allah does see? 14 Let him know that if he does not desist, We shall certainly drag him by his forelocks, 15 his lying, sinful forelock. 16 Then let him summon his council, 17 We also shall call the infernal guards. 18 (Muhammad), never yield to him! Prostrate yourself and try to come closer to God. ۩ 19
