۞ We bestowed aforetime on Abraham his rectitude of conduct, and well were We acquainted with him. 51 Recall what time he said unto his father and his people: what are these images to which ye are cleaving? 52 They said, “We found our forefathers worshipping them.” 53 He said: assuredly ye, ye and your fathers, have been in error manifest. 54 They said: "Are you speaking in earnest, or only jesting?" 55 He said: Aye! your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth Who created them, and as to that I am of the witnesses. 56 And, by God, I shall assuredly outwit your idols, after you have gone away turning your backs.' 57 He shattered them all, except the biggest among them, that perhaps they may question it. 58 They said: "Who has done this to our aliha (gods)? He must indeed be one of the wrong-doers." 59 They said, 'We heard a young man making mention of them, and he was called Abraham.' 60 [The others] said: "Then bring him before the peoples eyes, so that they might bear witness [against him]!" 61 They said: "Are you the one who has done this to our gods, O Ibrahim (Abraham)?" 62 He said, "Rather, this - the largest of them - did it, so ask them, if they should [be able to] speak." 63 So they returned one to another, and they said, 'Surely it is you who are the evildoers.' 64 Then their minds were turned upside down, and they said: "You know well that they do not speak." 65 He said, 'What, and do you serve, apart from God, that which profits you nothing; neither hurts you? 66 Fie on you and all that ye worship instead of Allah! Have ye then no sense? 67 They said: "Burn him, and come to the support of your gods, if you are going to do anything." 68 We said, "O Fire! be thou cool, and (a means of) safety for Abraham!" 69 They desired to outwit him; so We made them the worse losers, 70 And We delivered him and Lot to the land which We had blessed for the worlds. 71 And We bestowed upon him Isaac, and Jacob as a grandson. Each of them We made righteous. 72 And We made them leaders, guiding (men) by Our Command, and We sent them inspiration to do good deeds, to establish regular prayers, and to practise regular charity; and they constantly served Us (and Us only). 73 To Lot, We gave judgment and knowledge and saved him from the village that had been committing corrupt deeds; for they were an evil nation and were debauched. 74 We admitted him to Our mercy; he was a righteous man. 75
