The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 when the earth shall be rocked 4 and the mountains are totally shattered and crumble to pieces 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 So those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 8 Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 9 Then the foremost, how pre-excellent, 10 they who were [always] drawn close unto God! 11 In gardens of bliss [will they dwell] 12 A throng of the ancients, 13 but [only] a few of later times. 14 (They will be) on Thrones encrusted (with gold and precious stones), 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 (and there) shall wait on them immortal youths 17 With bowls and ewers and a cup from a pure spring 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 And such fruits as they fancy, 20 And the flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And [for them are] fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes, 22 like hidden pearls, 23 All this shall be theirs as a reward for their deeds. 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 All talk will be sound and upright. 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 (They will be) among Lote-trees without thorns, 28 And clustered plantains, 29 And a shade ever-spread. 30 and waters gushing, 31 and fruit abounding, 32 Whose season is not limited, nor (supply) forbidden, 33 And couches raised up. 34 Surely We have made them to grow into a (new) growth, 35 Then We have made them virgins, 36 loving and of equal age. 37 All this will be for the People on the Right; 38
