He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 And whereas he fears, 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 These verses are a reminder 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 Exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 to yield therein corn, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 And his mother and his father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
