Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ I do call to witness this City;- 1 And thou art a freeman of this City;- 2 And by the giver of birth, and whom he fathered, 3 We have indeed created man surrounded by hardships. 4 Thinks he that none can overcome him? 5 He boasts, "I have spent wealth abundant!" 6 Thinketh he that none beholdeth him? 7 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes?- 8 One tongue, and two lips, 9 And did We not guide him to the two elevated things? 10 But he would not attempt the uphill road, 11 And what shall make thee understand that which the steep is? 12 The freeing of a slave! 13 Or the giving of food in a day of hunger 14 An orphan of near relationship 15 Or to the poor man lying in the dust. 16 and, then besides this, he be one of those who believed, and enjoined upon one another steadfastness and enjoined upon one another compassion. 17 These are the people of the right hand. 18 As for those who disbelieve in Our revelations, they are the people of the left 19 [with] fire closing in upon them. 20
True are the words of God the Almighty.
