O ye messengers! enjoy (all) things good and pure, and work righteousness: for I am well-acquainted with (all) that ye do. 51 This community of yours is one community, and I am your Lord; so hold Me alone in fear. 52 But they (men) have broken their religion among them into sects, each group rejoicing in its belief. 53 Wherefore leave thou them in their bewilderment for a season. 54 Do they imagine that the wealth and children We have provided 55 We [but want to] make them vie with one another in doing [what they consider] good works? Nay, but they do not perceive [their error]! 56 Indeed, they who are apprehensive from fear of their Lord 57 And those who believe in the communications of their Lord, 58 And those who with their Lord associate not anyone. 59 and those who give to others what has been bestowed upon them with their hearts trembling at the thought that they must return to their Lord; 60 it is these who hasten to do good works and vie in so doing with one another. 61 We charge not any soul save to its capacity, and with Us is a Book speaking truth, and they shall not be wronged. 62 In fact, the hearts of the unbelievers are in the dark because of their ignorance of real virtue; they act against it. 63 Until when We overtake those who lead easy lives among them with punishment, lo! they cry for succor. 64 Cry not for succor this day; surely you shall not be given help from Us. 65 Our revelations had certainly been recited to you, but you turned your backs to them 66 behaving arrogantly, and making fun, and talking nonsense (about the Book in your nightly chats)." 67 Did they never ponder over this Word (of God)? Or has he (to wit, the Messenger) brought something the like of which did not come to their forefathers of yore? 68 Or did they not recognise their Messenger and so denied him? 69 Or, say they: in him is madness? O Aye he brought them the truth, and most of them to the truth are averse. 70 And should the truth follow their low desires, surely the heavens and the earth and all those who are therein would have perished. Nay! We have brought to them their reminder, but from their reminder they turn aside. 71 Or do you, [O Muhammad], ask them for payment? But the reward of your Lord is best, and He is the best of providers. 72 And indeed, you invite them to a straight path. 73 But those who believe not in the Hereafter turn away from the straight path. 74 ۞ And even were We to show them mercy and remove whatever distress might befall them [in this life,] they would still persist in their overweening arrogance, blindly stumbling to and fro. 75 Already have We grasped them with punishment, but they humble not themselves unto their Lord, nor do they pray, 76 Until, when We open for them the gate of severe punishment, then lo! They will be plunged into destruction with deep regrets, sorrows and in despair. 77
