As for one who turns away from the remembrance of the Gracious God, We appoint for him a devil, who will become his intimate companion. 36 And most surely they turn them away from the path, and they think that they are guided aright: 37 Till, when he cometh unto Us, he saith (unto his comrade): Ah, would that between me and thee there were the distance of the two horizons - an evil comrade! 38 And since you were unjust, it will not profit you this day that you are sharers in the chastisement. 39 (Muhammad), can you make the deaf hear or guide the blind or the one who is clearly in error? 40 And if We take thee away, We surely shall take vengeance on them, 41 Or (if) We show you that wherewith We threaten them, then verily, We have perfect command over them. 42 Hold thou fast wherefore to that which is revealed unto thee: verily thou art on the straight path. 43 and, verily, this [revelation] shall indeed become [a source of] eminence for thee and thy people: but in time you all will be called to account [for what you have done with it]. 44 You can ask Our Messengers whom We sent before you if We had commanded them to worship other gods besides the Beneficent God?" 45
