Dawn (Al-Fajr)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the dawn 1 By the Nights twice five; 2 And the Even and the Odd, 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 Is this not a sufficient oath for intelligent people? 5 Have you not heard of how your Lord dealt with the tribe of 'Ad, 6 the people of the huge columned city of Eram 7 the like of which was never created in the countries? 8 (Also consider how He dealt with) the Thamud, who carved their houses out of the rocks in the valley. 9 And Pharaoh, of the pegs (impaling his victims)? 10 who transgressed in the countries of the world 11 spreading in them much corruption? 12 Therefore thy Lord poured on them the disaster of His punishment. 13 your Lord keeps an eye on (all evil-doing people). 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him, then treats him with honor and makes him lead an easy life, he says: My Lord honors me. 15 But when He tries him, by straitening his means of life, he says: "My Lord has humiliated me!" 16 No! But you show no good to the orphan, 17 and do not urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And ye devour heritages with devouring greed. 19 And you love wealth with immense love. 20 By no means! when the earth shall be ground with grinding, grinding, 21 And your Lord comes and (also) the angels in ranks, 22 And on that Day hell will be brought [within sight]; on that Day man will remember [all that he did and failed to do]: but what will that remembrance avail him? 23 He will say, "Oh, I wish I had sent ahead [some good] for my life." 24 Upon that day none shall chastise as He chastises, 25 And no one binds like He does! 26 O you tranquil soul, 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased (with him), well-pleasing (Him), 28 And enter among My [righteous] servants 29 And come into My Paradise! 30
