The tribe of Thamud also rejected Our warnings: 23 For they said: "A man! Alone from among us, that we are to follow? Truly, then we should be in error and distress or madness!" 24 Why - on him alone from among all of us should a [divine] reminder have been bestowed? Nay, but he is a boastful liar!" 25 (We told Our Messenger): “Tomorrow they shall know who is the insolent liar. 26 “We shall send a she-camel to test them, therefore O Saleh, wait and have patience.” 27 And tell them that the water is to be divided between them: Each one's right to drink being brought forward (by suitable turns). 28 But they called their companion who took hold of her and hamstrung her. 29 How terrible was My punishment and warning. 30 Lo! We sent upon them one Shout, and they became as the dry twigs (rejected by) the builder of a cattle-fold. 31 And certainly We have made the Quran easy for remembrance, but is there anyone who will mind? 32 The people of Lut denied the Noble Messengers. 33 Verily We! We sent upon them a gravel-storm save the household of Lut; them We delivered at early dawn. 34 as a blessing from Us: thus do We reward all who are grateful. 35 He had warned them of Our assault but they disputed the warnings. 36 They demanded that he turn over his guests to them. We struck their faces, blinded them and said, "Suffer Our torment of which you were warned". 37 One early morning Our torment brought upon them utter destruction. 38 "Then taste you My Torment and My Warnings." 39 Hence, indeed, We made this Qur'an easy to bear in mind: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 40
