The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 there is no denying its coming 2 It will bring down [some] and raise up [others]. 3 When the earth is shaken with a shock 4 and the mountains crumbled, 5 Becoming dust scattered abroad, 6 And you shall be three sorts. 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands), Who will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell). 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 They shall be near-stationed (to their Lord), 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 A [large] company of the former peoples 13 but [only] a few of later times. 14 On thrones decorated, 15 Reclining thereon facing each other. 16 Youths of never-ending bloom will pass round to them 17 Cups and decanters, beakers full of sparkling wine, 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 And such fruits as they fancy, 20 And the flesh of fowl such as they desire. 21 And (there are) fair ones with wide, lovely eyes, 22 The like of the hidden pearls: 23 a recompense for all that they did. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 The Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 27 They shall be in the midst of thornless lote trees, 28 Among Talh trees with flowers (or fruits) piled one above another,- 29 and spreading shade 30 And water flowing constantly, 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 Lo! We have created them a (new) creation 35 and shall have made them virgins, 36 Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, 37 For the Companions of the Right Hand. 38
