In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you who wraps himself [in clothing], 1 Stand (to pray) all night, except a little. 2 (a half of it, or diminish a little, 3 or a little more, but recite the Quran slowly and distinctly. 4 We are about to cast upon you a weighty Word. 5 Verily, the rising by night (for Tahajjud prayer) is very hard and most potent and good for governing (the soul), and most suitable for (understanding) the Word (of Allah). 6 Verily there is for thee by day occupation prolonged. 7 And remember thou the name of thy Lord, and devote thyself to Him with an exclusive devotion. 8 Lord of the east and the west! No God is there but He! Wherefore take Him for thy trustee. 9 And be patient (O Muhammad SAW) with what they say, and keep away from them in a good way. 10 And leave Me and the rejecters, the possessors of ease and plenty, and respite them a little. 11 Indeed, with Us [for them] are shackles and burning fire 12 And a food that chokes, and a painful torment. 13 On the Day when the earth with all its mountains quake and the mountains become heaps of shifting sand. 14 We have sent an Apostle to you as a witness against you, as We had sent an apostle to the Pharaoh. 15 In response Firaun disobeyed the Noble Messenger, so We seized him with a severe seizure. 16 How, then, if you refuse to acknowledge the truth, will you protect yourselves on that Day which shall turn the hair of children grey, 17 Whereon the sky will be cleft asunder? His Promise needs must be accomplished. 18 This, surely, is an admonition. So let him who will, take the right path to his Lord. 19
