The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you who covers himself [with a garment], 1 Arise and warn, 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 And your garments do purify, 4 stay away from sins 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 For when the trumpet is sounded, 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 For the infidels, not easy. 10 Leave Me alone with he whom I created 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 and children living in his presence, 13 and made all things smooth for him; 14 and who still desires more. 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 Soon I shall mount him on Saood, the hill of fire. 17 He reflected, and then determined 18 (Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! 19 Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - 20 Then he thought; 21 Then frowned he and showed displeasure. 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 Then he said: naught is this but magic from of old; 24 This is not but the word of a human being." 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 What do you think Hell-fire is? 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 It scorches the mortal. 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
