He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 to a rich man, 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 and fearfully, 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 We send down abundant water, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
