The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 And the day when it shines in all its glory, 2 and That which created the male and the female, 3 O men, you truly strive towards the most diverse ends! 4 Then as for him who giveths and feareth Him. 5 And affirms goodness, 6 We will facilitate for him the easy end. 7 As for him who was a miser and behaved with aversion (to Allah), 8 And denies the best [reward], 9 We shall facilitate for him the way to Hardship, 10 and their wealth will be of no benefit to them when they face destruction. 11 Indeed, [incumbent] upon Us is guidance. 12 and, behold, Ours is [the dominion over] the life to come as well as [over] this earlier part [of your life]: 13 Therefore do I warn you of a Fire blazing fiercely; 14 none shall enter it but the most wicked, 15 who denied [the truth], and turned away. 16 He will be far away from the most pious. (The first Caliph S. Abu Bakr Siddiq) 17 Those who spend their wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 And no one has done a favour to him, for which he should be compensated. 19 except the pleasure of their Lord, the Most High 20 And soon will they attain (complete) satisfaction. 21
