And recite to them the story of Ibrahim (Abraham). 69 When he said to his father and his people, “What do you worship?” 70 They replied: "We worship idols and are devoted to them." 71 He said: Do they hear you when ye cry? 72 Or do they profit you or cause you harm? 73 They said, "No, but our fathers worshipped them." 74 He said, "Then do you see what you have been worshipping, 75 Ye and your fathers of old? 76 Verily they are an enemy unto me, save the Lord of the worlds. 77 who created me. It is He who guides me; 78 And He Who gives me to eat and gives me to drink: 79 who, when I am sick, heals me; 80 who makes me to die, then gives me life, 81 and He who will, I hope, forgive me my faults on the Day of the Judgement. 82 My Lord, bestow wisdom upon me; unite me with the righteous; 83 “And give me proper fame among the succeeding generations.” 84 and make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss; 85 and forgive my father; for he is one of the misguided; 86 and do not disgrace me on the Day when all people are resurrected, 87 The Day whereon will profit neither substance nor sons. 88 "But only he (will prosper) that brings to Allah a sound heart; 89 And Paradise will be brought near to the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2). 90 And the (Hell) Fire will be placed in full view of the erring. 91 And it shall be said unto them where is that which ye were wont to worship? 92 “Instead of Allah? Will they help you or retaliate?” 93 "Then they will be thrown headlong into the (Fire),- they and those straying in Evil, 94 and the hosts of Iblis, all together. 95 And there and then, blaming one another, they [who had grievously sinned in life] will exclaim: 96 “By oath of Allah, we were indeed in open error.” 97 When We held you (false gods) as equals (in worship) with the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists); 98 Only the sinful ones made us go astray. 99 We have no one to intercede for us before God 100 nor any loving friend. 101 (Alas!) If we only had a chance to return (to the world), we shall truly be among the believers! 102 Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 103 Your Lord is certainly Majestic and All-merciful. 104
