A large group from the earlier generations. 39 And a large group from the latter. 40 As for the people on the left hand, how miserable they will be! 41 In fierce hot wind and boiling water, 42 And shadow of black smoke, 43 (That shadow) neither cool, nor (even) good, 44 Indeed they were among favours before this. 45 And they have been persisting in the heinous offence. 46 and constantly said: 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we then be restored to life? 47 And so will our fathers?" 48 Say thou: verily the ancients and those of later generations: 49 shall be gathered to the appointed time of a known day. 50 Then indeed you, the astray, the deniers - 51 Will eat of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 filling your bellies with it; 53 "And drink boiling water on top of it, 54 Lapping it up like female camels raging of thirst with disease." 55 Such will be their welcome on the Day of Judgement. 56 We created you, then why do you believe not? 57 Did you ever consider the sperm that you emit? 58 Do you create it, or We are its creator? 59 It was We who decreed death among you. We will not be surpassed 60 That We may substitute others like unto you and produce you into that which ye know not. 61 You have known the first growth; so why will you not remember? 62 Have ye seen that which ye cultivate? 63 Is it you who makes it grow, or are We the grower? 64 Had We wanted, We could have crushed it to bits and you would have been left to lament, 65 "Verily, we are ruined! 66 Indeed, we have been deprived of the fruits of our labour." 67 Have you seen the water which you drink? 68 Do you send it down from the clouds, or We send it down? 69 If We will, We would make it bitter, why then do you not give thanks? 70 Have ye observed the fire which ye strike out; 71 Is it ye who grow the tree which feeds the fire, or do We grow it? 72 We have made it a reminder and provision for the travelers, 73 Then glorify with praises the Name of your Lord, the Most Great. 74
