The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O you (Muhammad SAW) enveloped (in garments)! 1 Arise and warn, 2 Proclaim the glory of your Lord; 3 And your garments do purify, 4 and shun uncleanness, 5 And bestow not favour that thou mayest receive more. 6 And persevere in the way of your Lord. 7 Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded, 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 Not of ease, for disbelievers. 10 Leave Me and him whom I created alone, 11 And then granted him resources in abundance. 12 And children present [with him] 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 And yet he desires that I should add more! 15 By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory! 16 I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 Behold, [when Our messages are conveyed to one who is bent on denying the truth,] he reflects and meditates [as to how to disprove them] 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 yea, he destroys himself, the way he meditates! 20 Then looked he, 21 And frowned and puckered his brow, 22 then he retreated, and waxed proud. 23 Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old; 24 'this is nothing but mortal speech.' 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 and what will teach thee what is Sakar? 27 It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels guarding). 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
