The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ ABOUT WHAT do they [most often] ask one another? 1 Is it about the awesome tiding 2 whereon they are at variance. 3 Surely yes, they will soon come to know! 4 Yes, indeed, before long they will learn all about it. 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 and fixed the mountains like pegs, 7 And (have We not) created you in pairs, 8 and made your sleep a means of repose, 9 and the night as a cover, 10 And have appointed the day for livelihood. 11 And (have We not) built over you the seven firmaments, 12 And placed a lamp therein brightly burning. 13 and have sent down out of the rainclouds water cascading 14 so that We might bring forth thereby grain, and herbs, 15 And gardens of entwined growth. 16 Surely the Day of Judgement has an appointed time; 17 It is a Day whereon the trumpet will be blown, and ye will come in multitudes. 18 The heavens will have openings like doors. 19 and the mountains shall be made to vanish, as if they had been a mirage. 20 Hell will lie in wait (for its prey). 21 A dwelling place for the Taghun (those who transgress the boundry limits set by Allah like polytheists, disbelievers in the Oneness of Allah, hyprocrites, sinners, criminals, etc.), 22 In it shall they remain for a long time. 23 tasting therein neither coolness nor any drink 24 Except boiling water and benumbing cold: 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 For lo! they looked not for a reckoning; 27 And they denied Our signs to the extreme. 28 And everything have We recorded in a Book. 29 So taste! for We will not add to you aught but chastisement. 30
