Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Has not there come to you the news of the overwhelming calamity? 1 Faces on that Day shall be downcast, 2 toiling [under burdens of sin,] worn out [by fear,] 3 they shall burn in a Scorching Fire; 4 Drinking from a boiling spring, 5 they shall have no food but thorns, 6 Which will neither fatten nor avail against hunger. 7 Faces on that day jocund, 8 well pleased with their striving, 9 They will live in an exalted garden 10 Wherein they will hear no unsuitable speech. 11 Therein will be a running spring, 12 Therein will be Thrones (of dignity), raised on high, 13 Goblets set, 14 and cushions ranged, 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 Do they not look at the Camels, how they are made?- 17 And how the heaven was raised up, 18 And at the mountains, how they are rooted? 19 And the earth, how it was spread out? 20 Then remind them! Thou art only a reminder; 21 Thou art not over them a warden. 22 But whoso is averse and disbelieveth, 23 Allah will punish them with the greatest punishment. 24 Verily, to Us will be their return; 25 Then, surely, it is for Us to call them to account. 26
True are the words of God the Almighty.
