Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ No! I swear by this land, 1 And you shall be made free from obligation in this city-- 2 And [by] the father and that which was born [of him], 3 Assuredly We have created man in trouble. 4 What, does he think none has power over him, 5 He says, "I have spent wealth in abundance." 6 Deemest he that none beholdeth him? 7 Did We not make two eyes for him? 8 And a tongue, and a pair of lips?- 9 And shown him the two ways (good and evil)? 10 So he did not quickly enter the steep valley. 11 And what do you know what that difficult steep is? 12 (It is) to free a slave, 13 Or the giving of food in a day of privation 14 An orphan of near relationship 15 Or a poor man cleaving to the dust. 16 And then being among those who believed and advised one another to patience and advised one another to compassion. 17 These are the fellows of the righthand. 18 But those who deny Our revelations are the people of the left hand: 19 On them is fire closed over. 20
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
