The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 arise and give warning! 2 And your Lord glorify 3 and purify your clothing, 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 And give not a thing in order to have more (or consider not your deeds of Allah's obedience as a favour to Allah). 6 be patient unto your Lord. 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 It will be a day of distress, 9 For the unbelievers, anything but easy. 10 Leave Me (to deal) with him whom I created lonely, 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 and sons standing before him, 13 whose life I have made run smoothly 14 Then he desires that I should add more. 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 He reflected, and then determined 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, 21 then frowned and scowled; 22 Then he turned away, and was haughty. 23 and says, "All this is mere spellbinding eloquence handed down [from olden times]! 24 It is nothing but the word of a mortal' 25 Anon shall I roast him into the Scorching Fire. 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It spares not, neither leaves alone 28 It scorches the mortal. 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
