People of Hijr rejected the Messengers. 80 We gave them Our signs, but they turned away from them. 81 They carved out dwellings in the mountains, and lived in security -- 82 So the scream overcame them at morning. 83 and of no avail to them was all [the power] that they had acquired. 84 And We have not created the heaven and the earth and that which is in between them save with a purpose. And verily the Hour is surely coming; so overlook thou with a seemly overlooking, 85 Surely your Lord is the Creator of all things, the Knowing. 86 We have given thee seven of the oft-repeated (verses) and the great Qur'an. 87 Do not strain your eyes after what We have given certain classes of them to enjoy, and do not grieve for them, and make yourself gentle to the believers. 88 And say: "I am a distinct warner," 89 (Of a punishment) Like the one We sent down upon the dividers. 90 [and] who [now] declare this Qur'an to be [a tissue of] falsehoods! 91 by your Lord, We shall question them all 92 Of what they used to do. 93 Promulgate thou that which thou art commanded, and turn away from the associaters. 94 We will, surely, suffice you against those who mock, 95 Who make [equal] with Allah another deity. But they are going to know. 96 And indeed We know that you are disheartened by their speech. 97 So exalt [Allah] with praise of your Lord and be of those who prostrate [to Him]. 98 And worship your Lord until there comes unto you the certainty (i.e. death). 99
