Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O thou enwrapped! 1 Keep watch all the night except some, 2 half the night, or a little less 3 or a little more; and with recitation, recite the Koran. 4 For We are about to send down to you a message of considerable gravity. 5 Surely, getting up at night [for worship] is the most potent means of subduing the self and most suitable for the word [of prayer]. 6 Surely you have in the day time a long occupation. 7 And remember the name of your Lord and, leaving others, devote yourself solely to Him. 8 (He is) Lord of the East and the West: there is no god but He: take Him therefore for (thy) Disposer of Affairs. 9 And be patient over what they say and avoid them with gracious avoidance. 10 Leave those to Me who deny, the lovers of ease and comfort; and bear with them for a while. 11 We have heavy fetters and a blazing Fire in store for them; 12 food which chokes (them), and a painful torment. 13 On the day the earth and mountains will rock violently, and the mountains turn to a heap of poured-out sand. 14 We have sent to you, (O men!) a messenger, to be a witness concerning you, even as We sent a messenger to Pharaoh. 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed Our Messenger, so We seized him with a terrible seizing. 16 Then how, if ye disbelieve, will ye protect yourselves upon the day which will turn children grey, 17 On that day, the heavens will be rent asunder. This is the decree of God which has already been ordained. 18 Verily this is an Admonition: therefore, whoso will, let him take a (straight) path to his Lord! 19
