He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 and who has fear of God, 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 In honored books, 13 Exalted and purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 and olives and palms, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 And fruit and grass - 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 laughing, joyous; 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 Dust shall cover them 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
