Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
HAS NEWS OF the Overpowering Event reached you? 1 Many faces will be contrite on that day, 2 be toiling and worn-out; 3 about to enter a glowing fire, 4 The while they are given, to drink, of a boiling hot spring, 5 They will have no food other than bitter and thorny fruit 6 Which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 (Whereas other) faces on that Day will be joyful, 8 Well-pleased with their endeavour, 9 They will be in a lofty Garden 10 wherein they shall hear no vain talk. 11 There is a stream of running water in it; 12 [and] there will be thrones [of happiness] raised high, 13 Goblets set, 14 and arranged cushions 15 And linen spread out. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 And the heaven, how it is reared aloft, 18 And at the mountains, how they are rooted? 19 And how the earth was outstretched? 20 Then remind them! Thou art only a reminder; 21 You do not have full control over them. 22 However, as for him who turns away, being bent on denying the truth, 23 Allah will chastise him with the greatest chastisement. 24 Surely to Us is their turning back, 25 and verily, It is for Us to call them to account. 26
