The Sun (Al-Shams)
15 verses, revealed in Mecca after Destiny (Al-Qadr) before The Galaxies (Al-Burooj)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By oath of the sun and its light 1 By the moon when it followeth it, 2 And the day when it shows it, 3 by the night when it covers the earth with darkness, 4 And the heaven and Him Who built it, 5 And by the earth and Him Who spread it, 6 and by the soul and by Him Who perfectly proportioned it, 7 and inspired it to lewdness and godfearing! 8 Surely blissful is he who hath cleansed it, 9 And he has failed who instills it [with corruption]. 10 The Thamud (people) rejected (their prophet) through their inordinate wrong-doing, 11 when the most wicked of them broke forth, 12 Then the apostle of Allah said unto them: beware of the she-camel of Allah and her drink. 13 In response they belied him, and hamstrung the she camel – so Allah put ruin over them because of their sins and flattened their dwellings. 14 And He (Allah) feared not the consequences thereof. 15
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
