Tell them the story of Abraham, 69 when he said to his father and his people, 'What do you serve?' 70 They answered: We worship idols, and we remain ever devoted to them." 71 He asked, "Do they hear you when you call to them? 72 Do they help or harm you?" 73 They said: Nay, we found our fathers doing so. 74 He said: See now that which ye worship, 75 you, and your elderly fathers? 76 "Now [as for me, I know that,] verily, these [false deities] are my enemies, [and that none is my helper] save the Sustainer of all the worlds, 77 "Who created me, and it is He Who guides me; 78 And Who feedeth me and watereth me. 79 And when I sicken, then He healeth me. 80 Who will cause me to die and then will again restore me to life; 81 “And the One Who, upon Whom I pin my hopes, will forgive me my mistakes on the Day of Judgement.” 82 My Lord! Vouchsafe me wisdom and unite me to the righteous. 83 and grant me the power to convey the truth unto those who will come after me, 84 "Make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss; 85 And forgive my father, for surely he is of those who have gone astray; 86 and do not put me to shame on the Day when all shall be raised from the dead: 87 "The Day whereon neither wealth nor sons will avail, 88 But to him who comes to God with a tranquil heart." 89 And the Garden shall be brought nigh to the God-fearing. 90 and hell will be left open for the rebellious ones 91 and they will be asked: "Where are the gods that you worshipped 92 "'Besides Allah? Can they help you or help themselves?' 93 And they will be pitched into it, they and the perverse 94 Together with the hordes of Iblis. 95 "They will say there in their mutual bickerings: 96 "By Allah, we were surely in clear error 97 When we made you equal with the Lord of the Worlds. 98 “And none misled us but the guilty.” 99 Now we have none to intercede for us, 100 Nor a true friend; 101 If only we could return and be among the believers!" 102 Verily there is a sign in this, but many of them do not believe. 103 Verily Your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Ever Compassionate. 104
