And indeed, Jonah was among the messengers. 139 when he fled like a runaway slave onto a laden ship. 140 Then lots were drawn and he became of those who were pushed into the sea. 141 [and they cast him into the sea,] whereupon the great fish swallowed him, for he had been blameworthy. 142 Had he not glorified God, 143 He would have remained in its belly till the day when all will be raised. 144 ۞ Then We cast him on to the vacant surface of the earth while he was sick. 145 And We caused a tree of gourd to grow above him; 146 We sent him to a hundred thousand or more people. 147 and [this time] they believed [in him] and so We allowed them to enjoy their life during the time allotted to them? 148 So ask them for a pronouncement -- Has thy Lord daughters, and they sons? 149 Did We create the angels as females the while they witnessed?” 150 Then is it of their lying that they say: 151 "God has begotten [a son]"; and verily, they are lying [too, when they say,] 152 Does He prefer sons to daughters? 153 What is the matter with you, how is it that you judge? 154 Will you then not take heed? 155 Or do you have a clear authority? 156 Then produce your scriptures, if you are telling the truth. 157 And they have claimed between Him and the jinn a lineage, but the jinn have already known that they [who made such claims] will be brought to [punishment]. 158 Purity is to Allah from the matters they fabricate. 159 Except the slaves of Allah, whom He choses (for His Mercy i.e. true believers of Islamic Monotheism who do not attribute false things unto Allah). 160 But as for you, and that you serve, 161 cannot mislead anyone 162 except those who will burn in Hell. 163 There is not one of us but hath his known position. 164 "And we are truly those who stand in rows, 165 Verily, we (angels), we are they who glorify (Allah's Praises i.e. perform prayers). 166 And they surely were wont to say: 167 "If only we had had before us a Message from those of old, 168 we would have been sincere worshipers of Allah' 169 They have rejected the Quran. They will soon know the consequences (of their disbelief). 170 We have already given Our promise to Our Messengers 171 [That] indeed, they would be those given victory 172 And verily Our host! they are to be overcome. 173 So turn (away) from them for a while. 174 And see them thou; they themselves shall presently see. 175 So are they being impatient for Our punishment? 176 But when it shall descend in their court, evil shall then be the morning of the warned ones. 177 Hence, turn thou aside for a while from them, 178 And wait, for they will soon see. 179 Too glorious is your Lord, the Lord of power, for what they ascribe to Him. 180 And peace be on the Messengers! 181 And praise be to Allah, Lord of the Worlds! 182
