The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 And there can be no denying of its befalling. 2 (it will) abase (some) and exalt (others). 3 When the earth is violently shaken 4 and the mountains are shattered into [countless] shards, 5 and become like scattered dust particles, 6 You shall then become three groups. 7 The people of the right hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their right hands. How happy they will be! 8 The people of the left hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their left hands. How miserable they will be! 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 they who were [always] drawn close unto God! 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 A number of the earlier peoples, 13 And a few of the later peoples, 14 They will recline on jewelled couches 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Youths of never-ending bloom will pass round to them 17 Cups and decanters, beakers full of sparkling wine, 18 Wherefrom they will get neither any aching of the head, nor any intoxication. 19 And such fruits as they fancy, 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire to eat; 21 And (there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious), 22 like hidden pearls, 23 All this shall be theirs as a reward for their deeds. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 Except the word peace, peace. 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 and flower-clad acacias, 29 and continuous shade, 30 Gushing water, 31 and fruit abounding, 32 Whose season is not limited, and their supply will not be cut off, 33 on raised couches. 34 Verily We! We have created those maidens by a creation. 35 So made them as maidens. 36 loving and of equal age. 37 For the companions of the right [who are] 38
