The Thamud accused the messengers of lies. 141 When their brother Saleh said to them: "Will you not take heed?" 142 "I am to you a messenger worthy of all trust. 143 So fear Allah and obey me. 144 And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds. 145 Do you believe that you will be left here to live securely in the present state 146 “In gardens and water springs?” 147 “And fields and palm-trees, with delicate tendrils?” 148 hewing out houses in the mountains and taking pride in your skill? 149 So fear Allah and obey me. 150 do not obey the bidding of those who are given to excesses, 151 Who cause corruption in the land and do not amend." 152 They said, "You are only bewitched and insane. 153 Thou art but a human being like unto us. So bring thou a sign if thou art of the truth-tellers. 154 He said, "Here is a she-camel. She shall have her turn of drinking, as you have yours, each on an appointed day, 155 "Touch her not with harm, lest the Penalty of a Great Day seize you." 156 Then they hamstrung her; and then they became regretful. 157 But the Penalty seized them. Verily in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe. 158 But, verily, thy Sustainer - He alone - is almighty, a dispenser of grace! 159
