The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 There is no denying that it will befall - 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. 4 And the mountains are crumbled, crumbled. 5 So that they become dust seattered. 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 The people of the right hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their right hands. How happy they will be! 8 And the People on the Left: and how miserable will be the People on the Left! 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 These will be those Nearest to Allah: 11 in the Gardens of Bliss. 12 a large group of the early believers, 13 And a few of the later peoples, 14 They will recline on jewelled couches 15 Reclining face to face. 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 with goblets, and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 they will also go about them with the fruits of which they may choose, 20 And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire. 21 And [for them are] fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes, 22 Like unto preserved pearls. 23 a recompense for all that they did. 24 No Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk) will they hear therein, nor any sinful speech (like backbiting, etc.). 25 Except the word peace, peace. 26 And those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 27 mid thornless lote-trees 28 Among Talh trees with flowers (or fruits) piled one above another,- 29 and amid the extended shade 30 And water gushing, 31 And fruit in abundance. 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 And couches raised up. 34 Verily, We have created them (maidens) of special creation. 35 and We made them spotless virgins, 36 Loving, of equal age. 37 for the people of the right hand 38
