The people of 'Ad, too, rejected the messengers. 123 Their brother Hud said to them, "Will you not fear God? 124 I am for you an honest Messenger. 125 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 126 And I ask of you no hire therefor: my hire is but with the Lord of the worlds. 127 “What! You build a structure on every height, to laugh at the passers-by?” 128 and erect huge palaces as though you will live for ever, 129 "And when you seize, seize you as tyrants? 130 So fear Allah and obey me. 131 and fear Him who has succoured you with what you know, 132 Provided you with grazing livestock and children 133 And gardens and springs. 134 Verily I fear for you the torment of a Mighty Day. 135 They said: "It is the same to us if you warn us or do not warn. 136 This [religion of ours] is none other than that to which our forebears clung, 137 and we shall not be chastised.' 138 So they belied him, so We destroyed them. Surely, in that there is a sign; yet most of them do not believe. 139 And verily! Your Lord, He is indeed the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful. 140
