He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 So you are after him! 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 And he feareth 9 you pay him no heed. 10 Not this way this is the advice. 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 Not one he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 and dense orchards, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 Dust shall cover them 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
