The Sun (Al-Shams)
15 verses, revealed in Mecca after Destiny (Al-Qadr) before The Galaxies (Al-Burooj)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the sun and its rising brightness 1 By the moon when it followeth it, 2 And [by] the day when it displays it 3 and by the night when it enshrouds him! 4 And by the heaven and Him Who built it; 5 The earth and its spreading out, 6 and by the soul and by Him Who perfectly proportioned it, 7 And given the faculty of knowing what is disruptive and what is intrinsic to it. 8 He has succeeded who purifies it, 9 And he will indeed fail who corrupts it. 10 The tribe of Thamud denied with rebellion. 11 when their arch-criminal rose up in rage. 12 But the Messenger of Allah said to them: "It is a She-camel of Allah! And (bar her not from) having her drink!" 13 But they denied him, and they hamstrung her, so Allah doomed them for their sin and rased (their dwellings). 14 He dreadeth not the sequel (of events). 15
