۞ It is He Who created you from a single person, and made his mate of like nature, in order that he might dwell with her (in love). When they are united, she bears a light burden and carries it about (unnoticed). When she grows heavy, they both pray to Allah their Lord, (saying): "If Thou givest us a goodly child, we vow we shall (ever) be grateful." 189 But when He gave unto them aright, they ascribed unto Him partners in respect of that which He had given them. High is He Exalted above all that they associate (with Him). 190 What! they associate (with Him) that which does not create any thing, while they are themselves created! 191 Who can neither help them, nor help themselves? 192 And if you call them to true guidance, they will not follow you. It is all the same for you whether you call them to true guidance or keep silent. 193 Surely those whom you call on besides Allah are in a state of subjugation like yourselves; therefore call on them, then let them answer you if you are truthful. 194 Do they have feet to walk with? Or have they hands to hold with? Or have they eyes to see with? Or have they ears to hear with? Say, “Call upon your ascribed partners and conspire against me, and do not give me respite.” 195 Surely my guardian is Allah, Who revealed the Book, and He befriends the good. 196 While those you beseech apart from Him cannot help you or even help themselves. 197 and if you pray unto them for guidance, they do not hear; and though thou mayest imagine that they behold thee, they do not see." 198 Take the abundance, and bid to what is honourable, and turn away from the ignorant. 199 And if a slander from the devil wound thee, then seek refuge in Allah. Lo! He is Hearer, Knower. 200 The godfearing, when a visitation of Satan troubles them, remember, and then see clearly; 201 And their brethren increase them in error, then they cease not. 202 If thou bring them not a revelation, they say: "Why hast thou not got it together?" Say: "I but follow what is revealed to me from my Lord: this is (nothing but) lights from your Lord, and Guidance, and mercy, for any who have faith." 203 And when the Koran is recited, give you ear to it and be silent; haply so you will find mercy. 204 And remember thou thy Lord within thyself with humility and fear, without loudness in word, in the morning and evenings; and be thou not of the negligent. 205 Verily those who are with thy Lord are not stiff-necked against His worship, and they hallow, and unto Him they prostrate themselves. ۩ 206
