The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ ABOUT WHAT do they [most often] ask one another? 1 About the awesome tidings [of resurrection] 2 About which they have been differing? 3 Indeed, they shall know! 4 again, no indeed; soon will they come to know. 5 Did We not make the earth a spreading, 6 And the high hills bulwarks? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 and We have made your sleep [a symbol of] death 9 And have appointed the night as a cloak, 10 and made the day [a symbol of] life. 11 And We have builded over you seven strong heavens. 12 And We have set therein lamps glowing. 13 And We send down from the clouds water pouring forth abundantly, 14 so that We may thereby bring forth grain and vegetation, 15 And gardens of thick foliage. 16 Surely the Day of Judgement has an appointed time; 17 The day on which the trumpet shall be blown so you shall come forth in hosts, 18 And the heaven shall be opened, and it will become as gates, 19 And the mountains shall be moved away from their places and they will be as if they were a mirage. 20 Verily the Hell is an ambuscade: 21 A place of resort for the inordinate, 22 therein they shall abide for ages, 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink. 24 Except hot boiling water and hot pus discharged from the people of hell. 25 Requital corresponding. 26 For lo! they looked not for a reckoning; 27 But they (impudently) treated Our Signs as false. 28 And We have recorded everything in a book, 29 So taste (of that which ye have earned). No increase do We give you save of torment. 30
