He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 Yet you pay attention 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 These verses are a reminder 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and pious. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 From Nutfah (male and female semen drops) He created him, and then set him in due proportion; 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 olives, dates, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 and covered by darkness. 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
