Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Hath there come unto thee the story of the Enveloping Event? 1 Many faces will be contrite on that day, 2 laboring, wornout, 3 about to enter a glowing fire, 4 and will be made to drink from a fiercely boiling spring. 5 For them there will be no food except from a poisonous, thorny plant 6 Neither nourishing nor banishing hunger. 7 (Other) faces on that day shall be happy, 8 Glad for their effort past, 9 In a lofty garden, 10 They shall hear therein no vain discourse; 11 A gushing fountain shall be there 12 [and] there will be thrones [of happiness] raised high, 13 and goblets placed ready, 14 Cushions arranged, 15 and outspread carpets. 16 Have they not looked at how the camel is created, 17 And the sky: how it was raised high? 18 and on the mountains, how they are firmly set up, 19 and on the earth, how it is spread out? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 You do not have full control over them. 22 However, those who turn away and disbelieve, 23 Then Allah will punish him with the greatest punishment. 24 Indeed, to Us they shall return, 25 Then verily on Us is their reckoning. 26
