The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Cloaked one, 1 Arise and warn 2 Proclaim the glory of your Lord; 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 And stay away from idols. 5 Do not bestow favours in expectation of return, 6 For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! 7 Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded, 8 That will be- that Day - a Day of Distress,- 9 Far from easy for those without Faith. 10 Leave to Me the one, whom I have created all by Myself, 11 whom I have endowed with abundant riches, 12 And children to be by his side! 13 and whom I have provided with every resource, 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). 16 I shall inflict on him hardship, 17 Behold, [when Our messages are conveyed to one who is bent on denying the truth,] he reflects and meditates [as to how to disprove them] 18 death seized him, how was his determining! 19 Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 20 Then he thought; 21 frowned and scowled, 22 then he retreated and grew proud 23 Then he said: naught is this but magic from of old; 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
