And indeed Yunus is one of the Noble Messengers. 139 He ran away to the laden ship, 140 And lots were cast (when a storm overtook them), he was rejected, (and thrown overboard). 141 And a fish swallowed him, and he was reproaching himself. 142 Had he not been one of those who acknowledge the glory of God, 143 He would have tarried in the belly thereof till the Day when they are raised. 144 ۞ But We threw him on a wide bare tract of land while he was ill; 145 And We caused to grow up for him a gourdplant. 146 And [then] We sent him [once again] to [his people,] a hundred thousand [souls] or more: 147 and [this time] they believed [in him] and so We allowed them to enjoy their life during the time allotted to them? 148 Now ask them whether your Lord has daughters, whereas they have sons. 149 Or that have We created the angels as females, while they were present? 150 Pay heed! It is their slander that they say. – 151 "Allah has begotten children"? but they are liars! 152 Has He chosen daughters in preference to sons? 153 What is the matter with you? How do you judge? 154 Will ye not then reflect? 155 Or have ye an authority manifest? 156 Bring your Book, if you are truthful. 157 They claim that He has kinship with the jinn, yet the jinn themselves know that they will be produced before Him [for judgement]. 158 God is far above what they attribute to Him, 159 Save single-minded slaves of Allah. 160 Lo! verily, ye and that which ye worship, 161 You cannot make anyone rebel against Him. 162 Save him who will go to hell. 163 (Gabriel said to the Prophet): 'Each of us has a known place. 164 and, verily, we too are ranged [before Him in worship]; 165 Verily, we (angels), we are they who glorify (Allah's Praises i.e. perform prayers). 166 What, would they then say: 167 Had we a reminder from those of yore, 168 then were we God's sincere servants.' 169 Yet (now that it is come) they disbelieve therein; but they will come to know. 170 Our Word had already preceded Our worshipers, the Messengers, 171 That verily they! they shall be made triumphant. 172 and that it is Our host that would certainly triumph. 173 Therefore turn away from them for some time. 174 And see them thou; they themselves shall presently see. 175 What, do they seek to hasten Our chastisement? 176 But when it descends into the open space before them, evil will be the morning for those who were warned (and heeded not)! 177 So turn (O Muhammad SAW) away from them for a while, 178 And watch and they shall see (the torment)! 179 Purity is to your Lord, the Lord of Honour, from all what they say. 180 And peace be on the Messengers! 181 And all praise is due to Allah, the Lord of the worlds. 182
