THUS, INDEED, have We sent Moses with Our messages unto Pharaoh and his great ones; and he said: "Behold, I am an apostle of the Sustainer of all the worlds!" 46 But when he brought them Our signs, lo, they laughed at them. 47 And not an Ayah (sign, etc.) We showed them but it was greater than its fellow, and We seized them with torment, in order that they might turn [from their polytheism to Allah's Religion (Islamic Monotheism)]. 48 'Sorcerer' they said, 'pray to your Lord for us in accordance to the covenant He has made with you, and surely we shall be rightly guided' 49 But when We removed the torment from them, behold! They broke their covenant (that they will believe if We remove the torment for them). 50 Then Pharaoh made a proclamation to his people: 'My people, is the kingdom of Egypt not mine and these rivers which flow beneath me? What, can you not see? 51 Am I not better than this lowly man who can barely express himself? 52 Then why have there not been placed upon him bracelets of gold or come with him the angels in conjunction?" 53 So he incited his people to levity and they obeyed him: surely they were a transgressing people. 54 So, when they had angered Us, We took vengeance on them, and We drowned them all together; 55 And We made them a precedent (as a lesson for those coming after them), and an example to later generations. 56
