If anyone withdraws himself from remembrance of (Allah) Most Gracious, We appoint for him an evil one, to be an intimate companion to him. 36 whereupon, behold, these [evil impulses] bar all such from the path [of truth,] making them think that they are guided aright! 37 To the extent that when the disbeliever will be brought to Us, he will say to his devil, “Alas – if only there was the distance* of east and west, between you and me!” – so what an evil companion** he is! (* Had I not listened to you. **They will be bound together in chains.) 38 And it will profit you not today, because ye have done wrong, that ye are in the torment sharers. 39 (Muhammad), can you make the deaf hear or guide the blind or the one who is clearly in error? 40 Even if We take thee away, We shall be sure to exact retribution from them, 41 Or (if) We show you that wherewith We threaten them, then verily, We have perfect command over them. 42 Follow devotedly that which is revealed to you. You are certainly on the right path. 43 And verily, this (the Quran) is indeed a Reminder for you (O Muhammad SAW) and your people (Quraish people, or your followers), and you will be questioned (about it). 44 Inquire of apostles We had sent before you if We appointed gods to be worshipped other than Ar-Rahman. 45
