The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ ABOUT WHAT do they [most often] ask one another? 1 About the great news - 2 concerning which they are in disagreement! 3 No indeed; soon will they come to know; 4 Nay! Nay! they shall soon know. 5 Have We not made the earth as a wide expanse, 6 The mountains tent-pins? 7 And it is We who created you in pairs. 8 made sleep for you to rest, 9 And made the night as a covering, 10 and We made the day for a livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 And We have set therein lamps glowing. 13 And from the wind-driven clouds We send down waters pouring in abundance, 14 so that We may thereby bring forth grain and vegetation, 15 And gardens of luxurious growth? 16 Verily, the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 the Day when the trumpet [of resurrection] is sounded and you all come forward in multitudes; 18 And the heaven is opened and becometh as gates, 19 The mountains will be driven away and become like mirages. 20 Behold, Gehenna has become an ambush, 21 A home for the rebellious. 22 therein to tarry for ages, 23 tasting neither coolness nor any drink 24 save boiling water and pus 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 They indeed hoped not for a reckoning, 27 And they belied Our revelations with strong belying. 28 But all things We have enumerated in writing. 29 "So taste ye (the fruits of your deeds); for no increase shall We grant you, except in Punishment." 30
