He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 And hath fear, 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 Nay, (do not do like this), indeed it (these Verses of this Quran) are an admonition, 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 We send down abundant water, 25 and let the earth to break open 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and herbage 28 and olives and palms, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
