The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ Alif Lam Ra. Those are the signs of the Book and of a manifest Koran. 1 How strongly the unbelievers will wish that they had been Muslims. 2 Leave them to eat and enjoy, and for aspiration to involve them in play – so they will shortly come to know. 3 Never did We destroy a population that had not a term decreed and assigned beforehand. 4 Neither can a people anticipate its term, nor delay it. 5 They say: 'You to whom the Remembrance is sent down, you are indeed mad. 6 Why do you not bring us the angels, if you should be among the truthful?" 7 We do not send down the angels (in frivolity); and when We do send them down, We do so with Truth; then people are granted no respite. 8 As for the Admonition, indeed it is We Who have revealed it and it is indeed We Who are its guardians. 9 We verily sent (messengers) before thee among the factions of the men of old. 10 And never came a Messenger to them but they did mock him. 11 thus We cause this [habit of mocking] to enter into the hearts of the sinful. 12 So, they will not believe in it: The example of former people is there. 13 If We were even to open for them a way to the heavens, and they could continually climb up to it in broad daylight, 14 They would say, "Our eyes have only been dazzled. Rather, we are a people affected by magic." 15
