Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Has not there come to you the news of the overwhelming calamity? 1 Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated (in the Hell-fire, i.e. the faces of all disbelievers, Jews and Christians, etc.). 2 labouring, weary, 3 roasting at a scorching Fire 4 watered at a boiling fountain, 5 They will have no food except bitter thorn, 6 Which will neither fatten nor avail against hunger. 7 In that day other faces will be calm, 8 With their endeavour well pleased. 9 They shall be in a Garden lofty: 10 where they will hear no idle talk, 11 therein a running fountain, 12 and raised couches, 13 And cups put in place 14 and cushions arrayed in rows, 15 And carpets spread around. 16 Do (these unbelievers) not observe the camels: how they were created? 17 And the sky: how it was raised high? 18 And at the mountains - how they are erected? 19 And at the earth, how it is outspread? 20 Remind them, for thou art but a remembrancer, 21 You are not charged to oversee them. 22 But whoever turns back and denies the truth, 23 God will punish them with the greatest torment. 24 Surely to Us is their turning back, 25 In Our hands are their accounts. 26
