(The tribe of) Thamud denied the messengers (of Allah) 141 Behold, their brother Salih said to them: "Will you not fear (Allah)? 142 “I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger of Allah to you.” 143 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 144 "No reward do I ask of you for it: my reward is only from the Lord of the Worlds. 145 "Do you think that you will remain here peacefully forever 146 "Gardens and Springs, 147 and fields, and [these] palm-trees with slender spathes? 148 You hew dwellings in mountains and exult in that. 149 Have fear of God and obey me. 150 Do not obey the orders of the transgressors 151 "Who make mischief in the land, and reform not." 152 They said: "Thou art only one of those bewitched! 153 "You are but a human being like us. Then bring us a sign if you are of the truthful." 154 He said: "Here is a she-camel; it has a right to drink (water), and you have a right to drink (water) (each) on a day, known. 155 Do not treat her unkindly or the punishment of a grievous day will fall on you." 156 But they hamstrung her, and then were penitent. 157 So the retribution came on them. Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers. 158 Your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 159
