In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou enwrapped! 1 Keep awake [in prayer] at night, all but a small part 2 Half of it,- or a little less, 3 Or a little more; and recite the Qur'an in slow, measured rhythmic tones. 4 Behold, We shall bestow upon thee a weighty message 5 Surely getting up at night is the best means of subduing the self and is more suitable for uprightness in speech. 6 Indeed, for you by day is prolonged occupation. 7 And remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with [complete] devotion. 8 Lord of the east and the west! No God is there but He! Wherefore take Him for thy trustee. 9 And patiently endure upon what the disbelievers say, and leave them for good. 10 And leave Me alone [to deal] with those who give the lie to the truth - those who enjoy the blessings of life [without any thought of God] - and bear thou with them for a little while: 11 We have fetters (for them) and a blazing fire, 12 and food that chokes, and grievous suffering 13 On the Day when the earth and the mountains will be in violent shake, and the mountains will be a heap of sand poured out and flowing down. 14 Surely We have sent unto you a Messenger as a witness over you, even as We sent to Pharaoh a Messenger, 15 but Pharaoh rebelled against the Messenger, so We seized him remorselessly. 16 How, then, will you guard yourselves, if you disbelieve, on the day which shall make children grey-headed? 17 The heaven shall rend asunder thereby; His promise is ever brought to fulfillment. 18 This is a reminder. Let anyone who wants, seek guidance from his Lord. 19
