The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ What do they question each other about! 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 Concerning which they differ. 3 No indeed; soon will they come to know; 4 Nay! Nay! they shall soon know. 5 Have We not made the earth a resting place? 6 And the mountains as projections (thereon)? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 and We made your sleep a rest, 9 and the night as a cover, 10 and We appointed day for a livelihood. 11 Have We not made seven strong heavens above you, 12 and placed therein a hot, shining lamp, 13 And We send down from the clouds water pouring forth abundantly, 14 That We may bring forth thereby grain and vegetation 15 And dense gardens. 16 Surely the Day of Judgement has an appointed time; 17 On that Day when the trumpet shall be sounded, you shall come in droves, 18 and heaven is opened, and become gates, 19 And the mountains are removed and will be [but] a mirage. 20 Behold, Gehenna has become an ambush, 21 For the exorbitant a receptacle. 22 Where they will remain for aeons, 23 They will neither taste anything cool in it, nor anything to drink. 24 Save boiling water and a paralysing cold: 25 a befitting recompense for their deeds. 26 They indeed hoped not for a reckoning, 27 And they denied Our signs to the extreme. 28 but We have recorded everything in a Book. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
